OpenAI introduced an Apple Messages plug-in for ChatGPT, Codex and ChatGPT Work, letting users search their message history, draft replies and ask the assistant to send or delete messages. TechCrunch reported the release on August 20.

Setup requires Full Disk Access on the user's device. In clarifications included in the report, OpenAI said the plug-in runs locally and reads messages in response to a specific user request rather than creating a full index of the inbox.

OpenAI's demonstration shows suggested follow-ups based on messages received the previous day. Sending those replies changes the connected inbox; it is not just a draft displayed in chat.

OpenAI discourages persistent approval for sending, because it removes the user's final chance to review a message before it goes out in their name.
