A search result can mention the right company and still be useless for the question. The jev-reranker library, released by Yuichi Tateno on September 19, uses Jev to score retrieved passages and remove those unlikely to contribute to an answer.

The author demonstrates the difference with a store’s return policy. Information about in-store purchases, repairs or another retailer can look relevant to a search for online returns. The filter keeps the passages addressing the actual question and drops the others below a chosen threshold.

In the author’s NanoHotpotQA experiment, filtering removed about 92% of candidate documents while retaining strong retrieval-ranking performance. That is a result from the published setup, not a forecast that every application will cut its total model bill by the same percentage.

The library offers reranking and relevance-filtering workflows and requires a TypeSafe API key. Applications decide the threshold and what to do when no passage qualifies, such as trying another search or withholding an answer rather than passing weak context to the LLM.
