Mocktail released version 4.0.4 on September 20 to repair an access problem affecting protected mock API servers. Mocktail lets developers create test endpoints and inspect requests without building a real backend first. The product was already available before this update.
An administrator could protect management endpoints with MOCKTAIL_ADMIN_KEY, but the dashboard did not send that credential when calling them. Protected instances therefore returned authorization errors when users tried to manage mocks. The MCP integration had a related problem: it sent the key intended for served mock endpoints instead of the management API's admin header.
The release changes both paths. The dashboard now accepts an admin key in a URL fragment, sends it as X-Admin-Key, and removes it from the URL after reading it. Opening a protected instance without a key prompts for one. The mocktail-mcp server also passes the configured admin key to management requests.
