OpenAI planned to activate ChatGPT advertising in 31 European markets on August 24, according to an August 19 awp/sda/dpa report published by persönlich. The expansion included Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Spain and Italy.
Dave Dugan, OpenAI’s vice president of advertising, told dpa that ads would be separated from ChatGPT’s answers by a grey line. He also said advertisers would not receive users’ chat histories or information from their conversations.
The report said Plus and Pro would remain ad-free, while the lower-priced Go subscription would include advertising.
OpenAI was initially working with agencies including Publicis, WPP, Omnicom, MediaPlus and Havas. A self-service tool for smaller companies and independent advertisers was planned to follow; the report did not give a firm launch date for it.
