OpenBMB uploaded MiniCPM5-2B weights on September 6, adding a small model aimed at local deployment, coding and tool use. The release follows MiniCPM5-1B and includes the tokenizer and chat template needed to work with the checkpoint.

The original weight file is about 5.03 GB in bfloat16, a 16-bit numerical format. That is the download’s size, not a promise that the complete application will run inside 5 GB of memory. Runtime overhead and the amount of conversation kept in context add to the requirement.

Its configuration supports 131,072 token positions. OpenBMB reports competitive long-context and agent-task results, but a configured limit alone does not establish dependable recall across an entire conversation of that length.

Documentation added later the same day identifies Apache 2.0 licensing and describes available model formats and serving options.
