Generalist has reached a $3 billion valuation after raising additional capital led by 8VC, according to two people cited by TechCrunch. TechCrunch cites a regulatory filing that puts the new financing at nearly $200 million.

The report describes the investment as an extension of the $400 million Series B that Generalist announced in June. Radical Ventures led that earlier round at a $2 billion valuation. The extension would bring the round’s total funding to about $600 million. Generalist and 8VC did not respond to TechCrunch’s requests for comment.

Generalist is building an AI foundation model intended to work with different robots. The company says its Gen 1.5 model can learn new tasks from video demonstrations lasting three to twelve seconds. One source told TechCrunch that Generalist was adapting the model using feedback from a handful of customers.

Former Google DeepMind researchers Pete Florence and Andy Zeng founded Generalist in 2024 with former Boston Dynamics engineer Andrew Barry. Its early backers include Radical Ventures, 8VC, Nvidia, Union Square Ventures, Bezos Expeditions and AI researcher Fei-Fei Li.
