Vercel has added durable approval steps to Chat SDK, its toolkit for building bots and agents. A workflow can post a card with Approve and Deny buttons, then stop until someone responds. The wait survives deployments and restarts, so a decision does not have to arrive during the original server request.

The new requestApproval function connects Chat SDK with Workflow SDK. Developers can restrict the decision to named approvers and set a timeout. When someone outside that list clicks, the workflow keeps waiting instead of treating the click as authorization.

Chat SDK verifies the chat platform’s signature on a decision and returns the deciding user’s identity. After a decision or timeout, it updates the original card with the outcome. For an agent-backed bot, this provides an explicit human checkpoint before an action such as deploying an application.
