Cloudflare introduced a Web Search API through AI Gateway on October 2, beginning with search providers Ceramic, Exa and Linkup. The service connects an agent’s workflow to current web results and source links.
The integration is aimed at a common failure in coding and research tasks: a model generates a plausible URL from memory, only for the page to return an error or contain outdated information. Search gives the application a way to find relevant pages before asking the model to use them.
Cloudflare says its launch partners have committed to its crawler requirements, including identifying their crawlers, respecting published access preferences and linking to the location of retrieved material. Those commitments concern the participating providers; they are not proof that every web crawler follows a site’s preferences.
This is access to partner search through AI Gateway, not the launch of a new Cloudflare-built search index. Developers still choose the provider and decide how search results enter the agent’s context, including whether the returned pages actually support its answer.
