OpenAI added reusable cloud environments to Codex at DevDay on September 29. Developers can have Codex prepare and test a project’s setup, then publish the environment so later tasks start with its prepared filesystem.

Each task gets an isolated workspace rather than sharing its working changes with other tasks. The release summary says cloud tasks can be continued from the web, mobile or desktop while the user’s computer is asleep.

The Cloud guide describes choosing GitHub repositories, letting Codex install dependencies and tools, and supplying missing access or information when asked. Users review the setup and test results before publishing the environment.

That published setup is a starting point, not approval of everything a coding task produces. Users can inspect changed files and checks, request follow-up work, and commit or open a pull request when ready. Services that a task needs still require configured access and credentials.
